Victor Sapunov, the head coach of the para archery team commented on the results:
«The Russian masters of para archery are rightfully considered one of the strongest in the world. They confirmed it once again and at the European Championships, where they had not equals in many disciplines.
Certainly, Stepanida Artakhinova deserves a special praise on becoming a European champion in individual competitions and in the team ones as well. She did not leave the rival with doubts about her high class. I would like to stress the pivotal role of the bronze medal of Yiulia Alekseeva in the individual competitions due to the fact that she managed to climb to the third step of the podium for the first time in such a big competition. More than that, she managed to win the title of the European champion along with her colleagues in the team tournament.
Nail Gatin for the first time became the silver medalist in the individual tournament, he significantly grew as an athlete over the past year. Let's hope that he will be able to improve his results.
In principle, progress is observed in almost all members of our national team. They reached such a level of skill that allows them to prevail over the strongest foreign opponents in the most prestigious foreign tournaments. We feel how the competition is growing, our athletes have to make a lot of efforts to be the best in the struggle for primacy.
A year later, the world championship will take place in the summer, where the first quotas for the summer Paralympic Games of 2020 in Tokyo will be played. Members of our national team are determined to become the owners of as many passes as possible for the Paralympic starts in the Japanese capital. "
Archery is one of the oldest disciplines in the program of the Paralympic Summer Games among athletes with physical impairments, included in the program of the 1st Paralympic Summer Games of 1960 in Rome (Italy). The first archery competition was held in 1948 in Stoke-Mandeville, which associates this sport with the birth of the Paralympic movement as a whole. At the 2020 Paralympic Summer Games in Tokyo (Japan) will be played 9 sets of medals in para archery.
