Chairman of the RPC Governing Board, First Vice-President, Head of the Working Group for the Preparation of Russian National Teams for Participation in the Paralympic Summer Games in 2020 in Tokyo (Japan) - Pavel Rozhkov, in the office of the RPC, met with members of the Initiative Group for the Development of Para-Karate of the Karate Federation of Russia - Vice-President of the Para-karate Federation of Russia, President of the Federation of Karate of the Moscow Region - Andrey Alekseev, President of the Federation of Adaptive Martial Arts of the Moscow Region - Yuri Rumyantsev, an expert of the initiative group of the Russian Karate Federation for Parakarate - Vadim Tokarev.
The RPC General Secretary, the 5-times Paralympic champion, Andrei Strokin, the Vice President of the RPC, the 3-time Paralympic Champion Olga Semenova, and others, attended the meeting.
During the meeting, issues of Para- Karate development in Russia and in the world were discussed, including the sport in the program of the Paralympic Summer Games in 2024 in Paris (France), etc.
XVII Paralympic Summer Games of 2024 will be held in Paris (France) from August 28 to September 8, 2024.
In the initial stage, the IPC confirmed that 8 new sports (soccer for persons with CP, soccer on electric wheelchairs, golf, para karate, wheelchairs sports dancing, sailing, surfing and armwrestling) and 3 new sports disciplines (taekwondo-poomsae, basketball 3x3, shooting - trap) expressed interest in applying for inclusion in the program of the Paralympic Summer Games in 2024 in Paris.
8 international federations: International Football Federation of Persons with CP, International Wheelchair Football Federation, International Golf Federation, International Surfing Association, World Arm-wrestling Federation, World Karate Federation, World Wheelchair Sport Dancing and World Sailing Federation - all have expressed interest in including in the program of the Games-2024.
In the second phase of the selection for inclusion in the program of the Games-2024, in addition to the 22 sports included in the PI-2020 program, there were: Football 7-a-side, electric wheelchair football, golf, para karate, dancing sports, sailing.
During the verification of documents from the Federations, surfing, arm-wrestling, taekwondo-poomsae, basketball 3x3, and shooting (trap) were eliminated from the competitive selection.
In January 2019, the Governing Board of the IPC will announce its final decision on the sports program of the Paralympic Games in Paris in 2024.
