The Russian Rowing Championships for persons with physical impairment on Krylatskoe rowing canal in Moscow have ended this past Monday.
The competitions took place from June 27th to July 1st
Alexander Pyalin, head coach of the Russian National team, talked to us about the event:
“ In the picture as a whole, the results are more than satisfying. Leading athletes from Russia performed according to their class and won in their categories.
No one could compete on the same level with Alexei Chuvashev. He overcame both mental and physical stress to show his best on the track. Now, he is ready for the qualification for the upcoming world championships.
Additionally, one of our mixed crews, Egor Frolov and Irina Krykova, and a four sweep-oar with a cox (Evgeni Borisov, Vyachesclav Mahov, Victoria Lavrentieva, Anna Piskunova ) did some outstanding work and won the finals.
At these championships, we came up with a shortlist of the national team that will be competing at the World Championships in Austria from August 25th to September 1st.
This championship is more important than any other in 4 years, as it qualifies athletes for the 2020 Paralympics in Tokyo.
We altered the roster of our team since last year’s world championships and have about a half of new athletes. We will be consistently and purposefully training for the main championships of the season.
This July we will begin training until the beginning of World Championships. During this time, our athletes need to achieve the highest level of their abilities and perform according to it in Austria.
