Physically and Intellectually impaired athletes (PI & II) competed in Tokyo from August 1 to 3 at Japan Table Tennis Open.
23 countries were represented by 180 athletes at the tournament.
Overall, Russian team performed well, earning 3 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze medals.
This tournament was especially amazing for one athlete from Republic of Bashkortostan, Elena Prokofieva. Elena was ahead of everyone in class 11(Intellectual Impairment) solo discipline, and also took first place in doubles with her teammate Anjelika Kosacheva (Saratov Oblast).
Another pair, Victoria Safonova (Republic of Crimea/Moscow) and Malyak Alyeva (Saratov Oblast), earned gold in class 6-7 (limbs deficiency) doubles event.
In their solo events, Victoria and Malyak earned silver in class 7 and bronze in class 6 respectively.
Another Russian representative,Yuriy Nozdrunov, took 3rd place in class 9 (mild limbs impairment) doubles event with Malaysian athlete Chao Ming Chee.
