President of Russian Paralympic Committee Vladimir Lukin, in his interview to ITAR-TASS stated that Russian Paralympic Committee is ready to take the most serious actions if, facts mentioned in the Report of the World Anti-Doping Agency’s independent commission under supervision of Richard McLaren are confirmed.

“According to McLaren’s Report, we had some positive test samples which disappeared into nowhere. This means that there is a group of felonious scoundrels, who violated all possible laws, including criminal. There is such a suspicion. We are extremely interested in identifying this group. If proved, that some members of Russian Paralympic Committee including myself were involved, we will tale the most serious measures .”

“At the moment, we are appealing to the most competent and serious authorities, including Russian state authorities , such as Russian Public Prosecutor Office. And international – if Interpol has some findings , we are ready to cooperate. But, accusing us of being accomplices in that scheme with no proves whatsoever is wrong”.

“It is unfair to turn victims into suspects” Lukin pointed out. “It is if, now we would say that we should not let the members of the South African Paralympic Committee compete at the Games, just because one of their athletes has been convicted of committing the crime. That’s sounds tragic and ridiculous at the same time. It violates all know cannons of the Paralympic Family”.

IPC should listen to Russian Paralympic athletes

“We are set to cooperate with IPC” said Lukin. “We hope that we can meet and discuss the situation. We can respond in explicit details, in well-argued manner with figures and facts at our hands, to all the questions. We should found a decent way out of this situation for all involved”.

“We were very disappointed with the last Statement of IPC” said President of Russian Paralympic Committee. “During the last twenty years of our cooperation, a lot of things happened. But, we always considered and consider now ourselves as friends and colleagues in such honorable as noble cause as Paralympic Movement. We also still consider ourselves, as we were always assured, as being true and reliable part of the Paralympic Family”.

“Reasons behind of what’s happening right now are not really clear to me. But Russian Paralympic Movement becomes the biggest victim of this situation” Lukin pointed out. “I have been President of Russian Paralympic Committee for the past twenty years, I am still is and very proud of that. At the early stage of our development, we had not received a lot of support from our authorities. But then since 2006, with their active involvement, we were able to achieve more significant results. We always felt and acted as the component part of IPC, and intent to continue to be so henceforth”.

“We are taking all possible measures to eliminate doping offences. Now we are preparing a report to IPC, where in details we will explain everything we have done. But we are a public organization, thus we can’t act as an investigative or prosecutorial authorities. We can’t conduct our own investigation”.

“Perhaps, I am ready to agree with one critical comment. Since 2006, our financial situation improved, we were able to provide more funds to support our athletes. The gap between rich and poor became wider, and not all athletes were ready to handle it. But fight against this disease is very serious matter, and it is fought everywhere. And everywhere, with a varying degree of success.
