IWAS President Rudi van den Abbeele addressed the participants with an opening speech.
The Congress considered information on the preparation for the XVI Paralympic Summer Games in Tokyo in 2021, in particular, the venue of the competition and the availability of sports facilities, as well as the calendar of sports events, etc.
The meeting participants decided to consult with the International Paralympic Committee on changing the name of the sport from IWAS Wheelchair Fencing to World Para Fencing, and discussed the further development of the sport.
Delegates approved the past work report and elected a governing body for a new reporting period.
Pal Szekeres was re-elected as the head of the IWAS Wheelchair Fencing Federation, Udo Zeigler as Secretary General, and seven members of the Executive Committee were also elected.
The meeting was attended by the Chairman of the IWAS Promotion Commission, member of the IWAS Athletes Committee, 3-time world champion in wheelchair fencing Ksenia Ovsyannikova.
