Three Paralympians of the Russian National Team had a new coronavirus infection, and no other cases of infection have been detected in the National Team from the beginning of the pandemic. This was announced in an interview with TASS by the president of the Russian Paralympic Committee (RPC) Vladimir Lukin.
"Currently, according to the World Health Organization and the International Paralympic Committee, there is no evidence that an athlete with a disability is at higher risk of getting COVID-19" - Lukin said. - The same is confirmed by our data on the monitoring of the incidence of COVID-19 among athletes of the Russian National Teams in Paralympic sports. Over the entire past period, we had only three laboratory confirmed cases for 1694 athletes from the national teams of Paralympic sports, which is 0.18%. Moreover, all three, fortunately, had a mild disease".
“Now these athletes are healthy, which is confirmed by the negative results of the coronavirus test” - the head of the Russian Paralympic Committee added.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, more than 6 million people have been infected with the coronavirus worldwide, about 367 thousand have died. In Russia, according to the federal anti – coronavirus operational headquarters, 414 878 cases of infection were registered, 175 877 people recovered, 4 855 died.
