TASS – Vladimir Lukin: the IPC and Paralympic Federations cancelled more than 160 competitions from the end of February

MOSCOW, June 1. / TASS /. Since the end of February, the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and the International Paralympic Sports Federations have cancelled or postponed more than 160 competitions due to the spread of coronavirus infection, including qualifying tournaments for the Paralympic Games in Tokyo. The president of the Russian Paralympic Committee (RPC) Vladimir Lukin said this in an interview with TASS.

 

"The IPC and international sports federations that develop Paralympic sports have cancelled or postponed more than 160 competitions since the end of February, including qualifying tournaments for the Paralympic Games in Tokyo. The Russian Paralympic Committee receives information from them daily and places it on the official website. Due to the postponement of the Summer Paralympic Games updated qualification criteria were announced for 15 of 22 sports" - Lukin said.

 

“As a result, we, with the all-Russian Sports Federations for Persons with disabilities and Head Coaches of the National Teams, are promptly making changes to the concept of preparing our national team, the schedule of training events, including the final ones before the Games, participation in the qualifying competitions for the Paralympics and so on” - said the head of the Russian Paralympic Committee.
