TASS: P.A. Rozhkov approved for position of the Chef de Mission of Russian delegation for the Paralympic Games-2020

21 April 2019
TASS, April 20th. Pavel Rozhkov, Chairman of the RPC GB and First Vice-President of the Russian Paralympic Committee (RPC), was appointed head of the Russian delegation at the 2020 Paralympic Games in Tokyo. This decision was made at a meeting of the RPC Governing Board meeting in Elista, the organization’s press service reported on Saturday.

During the meeting of the RPC Governing Board, there were also held events aimed at the development and popularization of Paralympic sports in Kalmykia. The events were held jointly with the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) and with the support of the acting head of the republic, Batu Hasikov, and were aimed at preventing and promoting intolerance to the use of doping.

The RPC’s membership in the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) was suspended in August 2016 after the publication of a report by an independent committee of the World Anti-Doping Agency under the leadership of Richard McLaren on doping in Russian sport. During the suspension of the RPC, the Russian Paralympians were deprived of the opportunity to compete in the most prestigious tournaments, including the 2016 Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro. On March 15, 2019, the decision to reinstate the rights of the RPC came into force.

The Paralympic Games will be held in Tokyo on August 25 - September 6, 2020.
