TASS: Lukin called athletes to be understanding about the Olympic and Paralympic Games transfer.

Moscow, March 25. / TASS /. President of the Russian Paralympic Committee Vladimir Lukin called athletes to be understanding about the Olympic and Paralympic Games transfer because of the COVID – 19.

On Tuesday, the International Olympic Committee announced the postponement of the Olympic Games in Japan to 2021 due to a pandemic. The Paralympic Games were meant to be held from August 25 to September 6.

"The most important decision was made to postpone the XXXII Olympic and XVI Paralympic Summer Games in Tokyo to 2021. It directly affects the fate of the global Paralympic family, and therefore the Russian Paralympic movement," the release said. “With appeared circumstances, the Russian Paralympic Committee fully supports this decision of the International Olympic Committee and the International Paralympic Committee on the postponement of the Games.We believe that the guarantee of maintaining the health of athletes participating in Paralympic Games is a paramount and indisputable value, exceeding all other considerations, we urge candidates to the Russian Paralympic team to be sympathetic to this decision.

Lukin assured that the Russian Paralympic Committee will make every effort to ensure the preparation of the team for the Games: "For its part, the governance of the Russian Paralympic Committee will make every effort to ensure the optimal and comprehensive preparation of our athletes for the dates of the Games, which, we hope, will be determined in the near future. All the necessary adjustments for the preparation for the Paralympic Games will be taken in close cooperation with the All-Russian sports federations by type of disability and head coaches of the national Paralympic Team - These are people who are used to overcoming difficulties and problems, and we will overcome the current ones.

The outbreak caused by the new coronavirus disease was recorded at the end of 2019 in Central China, later spreading to more than 150 countries and was recognized by the World Health Organization as a pandemic. According to the latest data, over 410 thousand people were infected all over the world, more than 18 thousand deaths were recorded.
