MOSCOW, June 29. / TASS /. The Governing Board of the Russian Paralympic Committee (RPC) made a decision on compulsory vaccination against coronavirus infection of all personnel of the national team on the eve of the Paralympic Games in Tokyo. TASS was informed about this by Acting President of the RPC Pavel Rozhkov.

"The current epidemiological situation in the country has put the Russian Paralympic Committee in a dilemma: on the one hand, everyone has the right to voluntary vaccination, on the other hand, we have the obligation to protect our athletes from the coronavirus infection as much as possible from Paralympic athletes with various health limitations. Unfortunately, among athletes, coaches and specialists of Russian national teams have cases of positive tests for COVID-19. We, as persons directly working with one of the most vulnerable groups of the population, have neither the moral nor the legal right to risk the health of our athletes. They have fulfilled all sports requirements on the selection for the Paralympic Games in Tokyo and deservedly selected for the Games,"- said Rozhkov.

"In order to reduce the risk of the spread of coronavirus infection among members of the Paralympic delegation planning to take part in the Games, the RPC Governing Board made a decision on compulsory vaccination of members of the delegation: officials, coaches, specialists, doctors, massage therapists accompanying disabled people of group I, all athletes' support personnel," he added.

Also, during the meeting of the RPC Governing Board, issues of training athletes for the 2022 Winter Paralympic Games in Beijing were considered. The head of the medical service of the Paralympic team, Guzel Idrisova, was approved, as well as the coordinator for interaction with the International Paralympic Committee, the Beijing 2022 organizing committee and the PRC health authorities on issues related to COVID-19, Alexander Ibragimov.

The head of the mission of the Paralympic delegation at the Paralympic Games in Tokyo and Beijing will be Pavel Rozhkov.
