Within the framework of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin in Sochi met with Russian Paralympic athletes led by President of the Russian Paralympic Committee Vladimir Lukin and Chairman of the Executive Committee, First Vice President of the RPC Pavel Rozhkov.
“It is very important for us to develop not only the Olympic, but also the Paralympic movement, we still need to develop mass sport. And for all: for young children, and who have health restrictions, who do not have it, everyone should do sports” - Putin said, communicating with Paralympics at the Russian International Olympic University.
At the same time, the Head of State emphasized that there are already certain results in this area. "Our number of people involved in sports has increased seriously, but still we still have something to strive for," Putin said. He stressed that in neighboring countries the number of people involved in sports per thousand people is more than in Russia.
“Although it would seem that we have such a massive movement that is sports everywhere. What am I saying? There is something we can work on with you. First, you need and you can set an example for everyone what sports is and how they need to be engaged, and second - transfer your experience, "said the president.
He assured the Paralympics that the state would do everything to support the athletes. "Today is the day when we talk about people who have certain health restrictions. But we have said the same thing many times when you look at you, it is clear that there are no restrictions and the possibilities are endless," Putin said. He noted the victories of the athletes and expressed the hope that they will repeatedly prove themselves as promising athletes.
At the end of the meeting, the athletes, laughing, told the president that the victories of the Russian judo team are connected with the fact that Putin even watches judo competitions at one in the morning. Putin confirmed that he is a fan of Russian athletes.
