PAVEL ROZHKOV TOOK PART IN THE IWAS EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING VIA VIDEO CONFERENCE

12 January 2021

The Chairman of the Executive Committee, First Vice-President of the Russian Paralympic Committee, Vice-President of the International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports Federation (IWAS) Pavel Rozhkov took part in the IWAS Executive Committee Meeting via video conference.

The meeting was chaired by IWAS President Rudi Van den Abbeele.

During the Meeting, Pavel Rozhkov spoke about the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport on arbitration between the World Anti-Doping Agency and the Russian Anti-Doping Agency, in which the Russian Paralympic Committee acted as related party (third party):

“The hearing in the CAS of the process, on which the status of participation of Russian athletes in the Games depends, between WADA and RUSADA took place from 2 to 5 November 2020, where the Russian Paralympic Committee acted as a third party.

On December 17, 2020, the CAS published its Award.

As the result of the decision, I will note that the CAS heard us and made positive decisions on a number of issues raised by the Russian Paralympic Committee.

All Russian Paralympians will be able to take part in the XVI Paralympic Summer Games in Tokyo (Japan), postponed to 2021, in the XIII Paralympic Winter Games in 2022 in Beijing (China) and in all other sports competitions.

CAS also refused to impose a ban on attending sporting events by the leaders and members of the Russian Paralympic Committee.

A great discussion was on sports equipment. WADA demanded that all colors of the Russian state flag should be excluded. CAS allowed the uniform in the colors of the Russian flag, albeit without an inscription.

The International Paralympic Committee recognized the decision of the CAS and announced that the IPC Executive Committee will meet in early 2021 to decide on the next steps. ”

The members of the Executive Committee confirmed the holding of the IWAS World Games in Sochi from October 2 to 9, 2022 and decided to change the status of the wheelchair fencing competition. Instead of the World Championship, the World Cup will be held.

As part of the IWAS World Games 2022, the IWAS General Assembly will be held.

The issues of organizing and holding the Guttman Games in 2021, the European Championship and the World Championship in electric wheelchair hockey in 2022, regional wheelchair fencing championships, including the European Championship, scheduled for May 12-18, 2021 in Hungary, were also considered.

The next meeting of the IWAS Executive Committee will take place on February 16, also in the format of a video conference call.
