International SportAccord Convention was held on The Olympic park, Sochi, Russia on the 22d of April.
President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, Minister for Sport Vitaly Mutko, IOC President Thomas Bach, IFs Presidents participated in the convention.
NPC Russia was represented by Pavel Rozhkov, First Vice-President and EB Chairman.
Vladimir Putin underlined the importance of sports and their role in shaping relationships between peoples and countries, and again confirmed Government’s support for sport in Russia. He thanked all representatives of the IFs for their efforts aimed at developing sports in Russia.
Marius Vizer was reelected SportAccord President at the SportAccord General Assembly.
Within SportAccord program IPC CEO Xavier Gonsales and Pavel Rozhkov discussed 2015 IWAS World Games to be held in Sochi; IPC GA –November 2015, Mexico; organization of World Championships in Russia, development of Paralympic sports all over the world, 2018 Tokio Paralympic Games program, and other matters.
Pavel Rozhkov also had several meetings with President of the World Curling Federation Kate Caithness, President of the International Bobsleigh and Tobogganing Federation Ivo Ferriani, President of the International Sambo Federation Vasily Shestakov, President of the World Taekwondo Federation Chungwon Choue.
Some of the topical questions of the meeting were inclusion of the new winter sport – parabobsleigh and new summer sport - sambo for visually impaired athletes.
Pavel Rozhkov noticed that Sochi has great legacy after 2014 Winter Olympic Games as Sport Complex Sanki, which is ready to held training events for parabobsleigh athletes.
After Pavel Rozhkov has a meeting with Director of World Academy of Sport Michael Cary and discussed with him the mutual organization of new institute for supplementary education by Russian NPC under the umbrella of the IPC. The new institute will focus in the field of adaptive sport.
