The chief of the mission of the Russian National Team at he XVI Summer Paralympic Games 2020 in Tokyo (Japan) Pavel Rozhkov said:
“The Russian Paralympic Committee is closely monitoring the world situation with coronavirus. And we cannot but note that it complicates the preparation of domestic Paralympic athletes for the Paralympics 2020. To date, the Organizing Committees of the competitions have canceled 17 international starts, most of which have a set of rating points for gaining the right to participate in the Summer Paralympic Games in Tokyo. As soon as we have this information, we promptly bring it to the attention of athletes and coaches of the national teams of Russia. Despite this, the Russian Paralympic Committee continues the planned training of athletes. The health of athletes and team members is monitored by qualified doctors, more attention is paid to preventive measures. ”
Pavel Rozhkov underlined:
“To date, 170 Russian Paralympics have won 133 quotas in 13 sports. The Russian Paralympic Committee expects a sports delegation of 220 athletes from 18-19 sports. The qualification period for the 2020 Games will close on July 29, 2020 with the distribution of quotas for the triathlon. ”
