The chairman of the RPC Governing Board, the RPC first vice-president, the head of the working group for the preparation of the Russian Paralympic teams for participation in the XVI Paralympic Summer Games in 2020 in Tokyo (Japan) - Pavel Rozhkov at the Olympic rowing channel "Krylatskoe" in the Presidential Cup of the Russian Federation for canoe and kayaks had a meeting with the Russian National Paracanoe Team.
Pavel Rozhkov met with athletes, coaches and specialists of the Russian National Paracanoe Team.
During the meeting, the performance at the World Championships in Portugal, which took place in August 2018, where Russian rowers won gold and 3 bronze medals, the process of the RPC reinstatement in the IPC membership, procurement of the National Team by the sport equipment and wear, preparations for the forthcoming XVI Paralympic Summer Games in 2020 in Tokyo (Japan) and the selection for them.
The XVI Paralympic Summer Games of 2020 in Tokyo (Japan) will be held from August 25 to September 6, 2020.
In the Tokyo-2020 Games 539 medal events will took place for 22 sports, which is 11 medal events more that in the Rio-2016 medal events program in Rio de Janeiro.
It is expected that 4400 athletes will take part in the Games. The Tokyo-2020 program includes two new sports - badminton and taekwondo. From the program of the Tokyo-2020 Games in comparison with the Rio-2016 were excluded - football 7-a-side and sailing. In Tokyo-2020, 9 medal events (5 among men and 4 among women) will be staged in Paracanoe, which is 3 medal event more than in previous Games of 2016 in Rio de Janeiro. The NPC can maximum enter 9 athletes (5 men and 4 women) for PI-2020 - 1 athlete in each medal event (slots are not personal, but for country).
Qualification periods for PI-2020 in Paracanoe began on August 20-24, 2019 from the 2019 World Cup in the Czech Republic. At the World Cup 2019, direct slots will be qualified for PI-2020 (6 best men and 6 best women in each medal event direct quota in each are selected (4 best males and 4 best women are selected who were previously not qualified).
On June 1, 2020, the International Canoe Federation will notify the National Paralympic Committees on the allocation of slots for Tokyo-2020.
To qualify for participation in Tokyo-2020, athletes must:
- have an international sport class with the status "C" (Confirmed) or "R" (reviewn) with a fixed date after December 31, 2020;
- take part in the World Cup 2019 and / or 2020 in the disciplines included in the Tokyo-2020 program.
