The Chairman of the Executive Committee, First Vice-President of the Russian Paralympic Committee , Vice-President of the International Sports Federation of Wheelchair and Amputee( IWAS) - Pavel Rozhkov took part in the Ceremony of commemorating St. Petersburg athletes and coaches for high achievements in St. Petersburg at the Expo-Centre Fairgrounds in St. Petersburg. International competitions in sports disciplines of sports of persons with physical impairments.
The ceremony was held within the framework of the XIII Public Action "I Choose Sport!", organized by the Government of St. Petersburg and the Committee for Physical Culture and Sports.
Pavel Rozhkov, together with the Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Physical Culture and Sports of St. Petersburg Svetlana Kuzmitskaya received awards in the nomination "For high sports achievements in international competitions in Paralympic sports, conducted by international federations, independent from the International Paralympic Committee."
Then, Pavel Rozhkov took part in the viewing of the master classes on sledge hockey on the powerchairs. The member of the Executive Committee of the PCR Leonid Zhestyannikov, the President of the Sports Federation of Disabled Sports of St. Petersburg, the Chairman of the Regional Branch of the PCR in St. Petersburg Sergey Gutnikov and the 2-time bronze medalist of the Paralympic Games for swimming sports of persons with visual impairment, the director of the competitions "Traditional tournament on sport dances on wheelchairs" Continental Cup”- Alexander Golintovski.
The World Hockey Championships on the power-chairs, will be held from September 24 to October 1, 2018 in Lignano Sabbiadoro, Italy. The Russian National Team has not yet been represented in this sport, however St. Petersburg has become the first region of Russia to develop this promising direction of sports for persons with a PODA. Floorball (hockey) first began to play back in the 1970s. The very first interest was shown by children with lesion of the musculoskeletal system. In the 80 years, the first competitions on floorball on electric wheelchairs were held. In 1987, the first competitions at the international level took place in Germany.
Within the framework of the World Hockey Championship on the power-chairs the meeting of the Executive Committee of the International Sports Federation of Wheelchair and Amputee (IWAS) will take place, in which Paul Rozhkov will take part.
The IPC is currently working on the selection of sports that can be included in the program of the Paralympic Games in 2024 in Paris.
XVII Paralympic Summer Games of 2024 will be held in Paris (France) from August 28 to September 8, 2024.
In January 2019, the Executive Committee of the IPC will announce its final decision on the sports program of the Paralympic Games in Paris in 2024.
At the end, Pavel Rozhkov and Svetlana Kuzmitskaya awarded winners of the final day of the International Competition "Cup of Continents-2018 for Wheelchair Dancing", and together with Sergei Gutnikov and Alexander Golintovski took part in the Gala Concert devoted to the closing of the International Dance Tournament.
