Andrey Strokin, Secretary General of the Russian NPC, 5-times Paralympic champion attended the Opening Ceremony of Paralympic Training Center in Astana, Kazakhstan.
President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev, executives of international sport organization and other distinguished guests participated in the Opening Ceremony.
The President of the Russian NPC, Vladimir Lukin has sent an address due to the opening of the center:
“Russian Paralympic Committee congratulates the entire sports community of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the opening of the Paralympic Training Center in Astana, the first fully adapted for people with disabilities!
This is a very important step in the development of the Paralympic movement in the country, which will allow even better preparation of Kazakh Paralympic athletes to international competitions, including world championships and Paralympic Games.

This is the first specialized Paralympic Training Center of international level in Kazakhstan. The total area of the Paralympic Training Center is about 5,000 sq. m. The venue is outfitted with state-of-the-art equipment. The uniqueness of the new training center is that it is available for sports not only for Paralympic athletes, but also for all people with disabilities
The center has the only unique sport and medical simulator in Kazakhstan - a 3x5 m running belt that includes video analysis of biomechanics for any kind of sport, whole body kinematics, a comprehensive analysis of gait and balance, differential diagnosis of the heart and other.
In the training center there is a hall for sports like goalball, sitting volleyball, wheelchairs tennis and boccia. These sports are included in the program of the Paralympic Games in Tokyo 2020. There is a professional zone for powerlifting in the venue. Adapted simulators for strength training occupy an area of 811 sq.m. The center has 423 sq.m. for parataekwondo
During the construction of the new center, international experience was studied., Sports centers for persons with disabilities in Great Britain, the United States, Japan, South Korea has been taken as example and best foreign experts of the International Paralympic Committee were attracted. Ileana Rodriguez was the expert at the construction of the training center. She is a specialist in the International Paralympic Committee in the field of accessibility standards for people with disabilities. She was an architect at the reconstruction of the Olympic training center in the city of Colorado Springs (USA). This center is taken as a basis for the construction of the Paralympic Training Center in Astana. Ileana Rodriguez is a member of the US National Team for Para Swimming. She participated in the Paralympic Games in London in 2012, took the 7th place in swimming at 100m breaststroke
