General Secretary of the Russian Paralympic Committee (RPC), five-time champion of the Paralympic Games Andrey Strokin and Honorary Vice-President of the RPC Lev Seleznev in the city of Izhevsk (Udmurt Republic) took part in the opening ceremony and attended the competitions of the All-Russia Sledge-Hockey Tournament dedicated to the memory of the Russian athlete Viktor Kuznetsov.
Competitions were held on the ice arena of the Sports Complex "Olimpiets", for the championship title of competed such teams as ; SKHK "Ugra" (Kh-MAO-Ugra, champion of Russia of the season 2017-2018), SCC "Hawks" (Orenburg region), Moscow City team and Udmurtia SCC ( Udmurt republic).
The tournament was dedicated to the memory of Viktor Nikolaevich Kuznetsov - master of sports of the international class, Chairman of the regional branch of the Russian Paralympic Committee in the Udmurt Republic, honored coach of Russia and Udmurtia. Under his leadership in the Udmurt Republic has created one of their first domestic sledge-hockey. The team's players are part of the Russian National sledge-hockey team, made a great contribution to the silver medals of the XI Paralympic Winter Games of 2014 in Sochi. Viktor Nikolaevich Kuznetsov from 1991 up to 2017 was engaged in the development of Paralympic sports in the Udmurt Republic.
The Opening Ceremony of the Tournament was attended by the Minister of Physical Culture, Sports and Youth Policy of the Udmurt Republic Natalia Goltsova, Head of the Administration of the Udmurt Republic Government Sergey Smirnov and others.
The tournament is the third out of four Sledge-Hockey Tournaments held at the beginning of this season in different regions of Russia. Similar tournaments have already been held in Orenburg - "Challenge Cup, forward on the ice!" And in Moscow - Open Hockey Cup-Cup "Courage Cup". Also, the Sledge Hockey Tournament will take place in Khanty-Mansiysk.
For the first time the Sledge-Hockey in the Russian Federation appeared in 2009. In the same year, the first Russian Sledge Hockey Championship was held in Podolsk (Moscow region) on the small Ice Arena "Vityaz".
As of today, the Sledge- Hockey has been developing in 8 (eight) different regions of the Russian Federation: Moscow, Moscow Region, Khanty-Mansi Autonomous District, Republic of Bashkortostan, Udmurt Republic, Orenburg Region, St. Petersburg, Chelyabinsk Region. For the clubs in the Russian Federation, the Russian Championship consists of two stages, as well as All-Russian competitions in Moscow, Khanty-Mansiysk, Izhevsk and Orenburg.
Currently, the basic teams for the Russian National Team are; SKHK Yugra (Khanty-Mansiysk AO), SChP Phoenix (Moscow region), SCU of Udmurtia (Udmurt Republic).
Due to its perseverance and courage, in 2014, at the XI Paralympic Winter Games (Sochi), Russian Sledge Hockey players won silver medals, at the World Championship 2015 in the US - the third place, and in 2016 at the European Championships in Sweden became winners.
